Dominica, not always given the attention it so well deserves.. full of tropical adventure, and incredibly FUN, gracious people. Officially the Commonwealth of Dominica, it is an island nation in the Caribbean Sea. To the north-northwest lies Guadeloupe, to the southeast Martinique. Its size is 754 square kilometres (291 sq mi) and the highest point in the country is Morne Diablotins, which has an elevation of 1,447 metres (4,747 ft).

The indigenous people are called Caribs, while other people from Dominica are called Dominicans. It is spelled the same as it would be for someone from the Dominican Republic, but it is pronounced differently.

My brother Pete, is a highly talented artisan of unique, supreme quality, hand-made furniture and fine wood working designs, and proud owner of MeadowLark Designs in Lyman, Maine.

He and his wife, Joyce, visited Dominica and share a few comments on their Face Book post:

“Back from Dominica – sniff! – But had a great time! More stories to tell than time or space allows.

We stayed in a tree house (no kidding!) in the jungle on the side of a volcano. Pretty cool. No electricity, or any kind of utility except gas for a stove cook top. Rain water collected in cisterns, heated by the sun. It was totally comforable, and a real blast.”

Pete continues, “We rented a small 4×4 to get around, and we definitely needed the 4×4 – even to get up the road to our treehouse! Anyway – enjoy, and go if you ever want to experience what may be one of the last unspoiled Caribbean islands.”

More coming soon!
