San Salvador is home to many monuments, ruins and shipwrecks that directly reflect its rich history, including five memorials that commemorate Christopher Columbus’ arrival in 1492. One of them, an underwater monument, is said to mark the spot where the Pinta dropped anchor.

I stayed at the San Salvador (Bahamas) Club Med All Inclusive Resort for most of my stay. It was right on the beach. We had a sweet, spacious bungalow overlooking the turquoise waters with the gentle warm breezy waves lapping below. It was incredible! All of it! I wouldn’t have thought of staying in an all-inclusive resort before. But, I’m really glad I did. It had everything!

In addition to its profound past, the island showcases miles of secluded beaches, crystal-clear seas and sparkling inland lakes. Visitors looking to embark on an adventure full of history and culture will find that San Salvador Island is the perfect place to begin their journey. It’s no wonder that Columbus dubbed it “The New World.”

The resort had private tennis courts, with private lessons, a full outdoor movie theatre, a gorgeous Olympic sized swimming pool overlooking the ocean, multiple hobos and other small sail boats to sail any time we wanted, and more. Entertainment 24/7! It was a blast.
